If you can find an iRiver IFP395 it is the best choice. If not, you can use
the newer 800 series models (noisier and have no UMS Firmware)
It doesn't take removable compact flash but 1 Gig version can record up to
34 hours of stereo before you download it through it's USB-2 Port.
800 Series has mice/line switchable input 3.5mm plug.
Directly encodes MP-3 up to 96kHZ The 395 will encode at up to 384Khz
bitrate.

Runs for up to 40 hours on a single AA penlight cell.
If you find an IFP395 make sure to download the UMS Firmware for it from the
iRiver site. It will then be compatible with both MAC and PC without
special software or drivers. There are then no restrictions on download of
MP3 files etc. Without the UMS firmware you have to use the iRiver Music
Manager software to download and convert (just change the filename extension
to MP3) before you can send the files to others.
