Re: 9V Lithium battery explosion

Hi Sergio,
I asked Rodney in service to give you a call yesterday afternoon. The
contrast bias voltage on the LCD is probably set wrong. We normally
don't set it here since it is set by the manufacturer of the display
and usually they are correct. The voltage applied to the LCD
electronics by different raw power supplies (battery and external) can
vary by a small percentage. If the LCD bias voltage is right on the
edge, the different main voltages can make big visual differences.

It is also possible that the main switching regulator isn't regulating
in a normal manner. If that is the case, and the regulator voltage is
drifting, it would explain how the unit got out of here with a bad
display. A bad regulator would also explain why different power
sources result in such wide variation

As I understand the service record, we replaced that LCD for you but
apparently didn't look at it critically. Let us take a second look at
it and if it can't be adjusted properly we will replace it again with
a good one and/or replace the main regulator.
Best Regards,
