Remakes are made because there are only so many good stories to go

Actually, it's because they're a sound financial investment... albeit
relatively speaking. Whenever you do a remake, you already have a script
and a built-in audience.
Movies are an extremely expensive art form, folks... and *something* has
to keep the lights on and the rent up to date and pay for all the beautiful
films that nobody goes to see except us.
