plonk, I echo Jim Beaver's entire post, and hope that Russell can
somehow rehabilitate his unfortunate riposte.

To be clear, this is the post by Mr. Watson that I was telling
Mr. Beaver he would be missing:

[about the Democats]
They have learned to modify the rhetoric over the years so they don't
come right and say everything they mean in plain English.
I realize that listening to a bunch of liberals with diarrhea of the
mouth is about as exciting as watching paint dry so I can understand
if you dozed off during the convention speeches and thereby missed
the
fact that they are against "Big" anything (except gov't) and that the
entire thing was nothing but a big union blowjob. It's the "class
struggle" between capital and labor repackaged for the 21st century.

As for putting people back to work, and not putting more on welfare,
exactly how is that supposed to work when you plan to ass-rape
businesses by confiscating their profits to fund "social programs",
jacking up the minimum wage every few years, etc., all of which have
the net result of fewer rather than more people working?

No works camps, huh? FDR created quite a few as part of the so-called
New Deal. It's part of the "Progressive" legacy and there's no
indication that any of the current crop who describe themselves as
such have a problem with it. They have cribbed every other bad idea
from previous generations of their ilk, so there's no reason to
believe that one is off the table. People in places like New Orleans
are practically demanding it. I can see a WPA-like program instituted
there where people are payed minimum wage for just hanging around the
levees day after day with the instruction to go and stick a finger in
any holes that might appear like the little Dutch boy and his dike.
That's about how effective most of them are. There was a reason why
one of the derisive explanations of the acronym applied to FDR's
program was "We Poke Along", as they were mostly being paid to do
something meaningless that nobody really cared about and got paid
whether they ever completed it or not...
