None of the reviews I read mentioned anything about a sense of humor. The

More than the sense of humor, they've lost the sense of *satire* that
gave the original its cult cool:
In the original movie, the race was the #1 ratings hit on mass
televison, a la "10th Victim"--
Here, it's "The most illegal underground Internet footage", as if they
felt it didn't look *enough* like "The Condemned"...
entertainment for the masses on pay per view Internet. Not that
there's much of a distinction. Dawn of the Dead is another remake
that sucks out any original satirical intent. But that was a good
film. Death Race is one of those Jason Statham action movies where
the camera lingers so lovingly on his hot and buff body it makes you
wonder what the predominantly male audience is really getting for
their money. Any resemblance to the original is strictly there for
marketing purproses since its a film people have fond memories of.
