That was the point, wasn't it? That it WOULDN'T be in it? Did you miss
what he meant? He was making a reference to last Die Hard movie, which
was an action overdose.
If you are going to use an analogy, at least get the core of it
correct. He should have said Sabre jet or something.
Rhetoric should be used to make an intelligible point, not to provide
fact-checked historical data. If Lucas had referred to an F-86 or a
Sabre, some people would have been left scratching their heads. The
term "F-14" is more instantly recognizable and thus more effectively
makes Lucas' point, which is that contemporary action-movie overkill
shouldn't be expected.
