Yeah, science is full of backbiting, infighting, protectionism, and
politics... just like any other multi-human endeavor. (If I were an
ID-er, I'd might even say it's God's plan.) For all those faults,
though, I gotta say that, e.g., when I do pick up the occasional book
by a prominent scientist, the guy nearly always sounds pretty damned
smart. (Wish that were true of other fields... say, government...)

I respect science as much as you do, maybe even more.
Our argument is not about science, but (1) what qualifies
as philosophy, and (2) what is out of bounds for any
established order's reaction when challenged/questioned.

Re: science, I've had a lifelong interest in astronomy, and
one of the irritations of astronomers is public ignorance
of the difference between astronomy and astrology. But
I've never heard of astrologers being persecuted by
astronomers in the present day. . . .

But if astrologers suddenly started putting itself on a par with
astronomy, and that astrologers asserted that astrology be taught in
astronomy class, you'd see some "persecution" then. You can bet on it.

That was a piss-poor analogy, Calvin. Piss-poor.

But astrologers will say, "We don't want it taught in Astronomy class,
but rather in Home Ec ...as a chapter titled 'Why Astronomy Is a Waste
of Family Time'..."

No they wouldn't; but they might say that they have had an
historic place in philosophy over the millennia, and should
be respected for it.

I don't think astrology has any more pertinent questions to
ask, or answers to give (the daily horoscope industry
notwithstanding), but its early contributions to philosophy
should be taught, IMO, as part of the history of philosophy.
One could also make a case that it should be included
in the history of science, because data collected for astrological
purposes was useful in early astronomy.

ASIDE: One might at least meditate on the beauty and
symmetry of astrology, if not for one ruinous fact. It did
not take into account the 26000 year cycle of the precession
of the earth's axis (like the change in direction of the axis
of a spinning top) . Thus now the 'sign's do not even align
with their original constellations.

No wonder my readings were off.
