Yeah, I understand it's how the rest of the world perceives US power
but in 28 Weeks Later it's caricature-ish and over-the-top. And where
In saying "but" there, I don't think you ARE getting the extent of people's
perceptions. Maybe it should have been an "and".
;-)
are the British? Even if most of the government got wiped out with
the infestation, you'd think there'd be enough of an ex-pat population
to get a few UK doctors, scientists, bureaucrats, military leaders
into the country rather than relying on a handful of trigger happy 30
year old Americans to revive the nation.
I see what you mean. There are certainly a lot of UK troops outside the
UK, around the world making a nuisance of themselves (yes yes, a lot of
them do admirable work too, just like some of the USAn troops are probably
doing, somewhere).
However logistically they probably do not have resources to undertake a
mission such as we're seeing in 28WL. It's not necessarily a numbers
thing, but wherever they are currently deployed, they might not have the
kit and wherewithall to get *back* to the UK, and do anything meaningful.
It's a fairly specialist operation.
So this would mean USA to the rescue, leading the mission.
We only see a few of the hundreds / thousands of personnel involved in the
mission. For all we know, most of the rest of them could be UK personnel
seconded to the US mission; but a US mission would be lead by USAns.
I don't see anything unreasonable here.
The undertone was about *USA* bungling an op in someone else's country, not
simply "a bungled op". It would not work if the key characters were a mix
of USAn and Poms.
