SFIFF50 DIRECTING AWARD: SPIKE LEE
On May 2, the 50th San Francisco International Film Festival will
honor Spike Lee with the San Francisco Film Society's Directing Award.
The director will participate in an onstage interview with Wesley
Morris of the Boston Globe (formerly of SF Examiner). We will screen a
series of clips from Spike Lee's remarkable career, followed by the
interview and then Acts II and III of his documentary on Hurricane
Katrina, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. The film is a
powerful elegy for an American tragedy, as Lee ruminates on familiar
and surprising details of the Hurricane with a heartfelt compassion.
This event is scheduled for 7:30 pm, Wednesday, May 2 at the Castro
Theatre. Film Society members with valid memberships can purchase
tickets to this event now, and the general public can start buying
tickets on April 5. Buy now at www.sffs.org.
