Re: Will Sharon Stone revive her career with "Basic Instinct 2?"

Also, Sharon Stone is not much of an actress OR much of a movie star
for that matter. With BASIC INSTINCT, she just happened to luck into a
vehicle that, thanks to demented geniuses Joe Eszterhas (writer) and
Paul Verhoeven (director) made best use of whatever attributes she had
at the time. Before that, she was essentially just a leading lady to
action heroes (TOTAL RECALL, ABOVE THE LAW, KING SOLOMON'S MINES) and
actually did pretty well in that narrow niche. Once everyone decided,
after BASIC INSTINCT, that she was a "Movie Star," her career has been
pretty spotty, with Scorsese's CASINO standing out as the one
exceptional role she's had since BI. I would argue that, after her role
in BROKEN FLOWERS, maybe she has a career ahead of her doing character
roles, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all. But as a middle-aged sex
symbol? Well, only if Aaron Spelling comes up with a Joan Collins-type
role on a TV primetime soap (a genre that's also dead these days). Joan
Collins was about Stone's age when she started doing "Dynasty."
