The solution is simple. Charge enough to cover your costs, posting a detailing of
said costs on your website. Be transparent and accountable.
And don't make donations to anyone, or make doing so optional to each individual
buyer. That's a simple way of ensuring that you can be accused of following DCIA's
version of exploiting what drum & bugle corps was and is to make a buck for the new
crap.
Much like Diceman radio does, interspersing the old and new - as well as providing
what appears to be a genuine resume credit to someone deeply involved in not-nice
things, and not looking to get out of them.

Preserve Our Corps Memories has now reviewed and restored enogh
recordings that there are 3000 or so pre-70's recordings offered for
sale.
Remember money gained is donated to modern new corps.

Last time I posted a note Catherine chimed in making a suggestion
based only on half of the knowledge of the immense expense our group
has put out to collect and restore these recordings. It is at least
$50,000. Fact is, we'll never get the money back. Her point seemed to
be not to donate to modern corps because of problems with the direction
that they are going.
Personally I took a little offense but as I think about it, I am not
happy about donating to modern corps. So now we are left with a
situation where we must charge a little because we are not in this to
lose more money AND more importantly, we do not want to give the
impression to all those people who have donated to us that we are
making money off their donations. We are not.
I wish someone other than a member of our group would chime in and give
a suggestion - taking the big picture in mind. It would require
thought and not a quick one or two liner.
Perhaps we should give scholarships to inner city folks. It is also
possible to charge only our expense at present, eating the $50,000.
To the rest of you with a little grey in your hair, read the lists of
recordings we have, check your collections, and donate. Our collection
of 1950's recordings is startling in its number and startling in its
quality. Ultimately, these will probably be donated to the Smithsonian
who have a Save Our Sounds division.
Thanks for the effort of reading to the end.
