I had that feeling too.

the teacher is English teacher or German, or even if the translator
know the English tradition or not, (choice between chicken and turkey
for the holiday?)  the endnotes after volume one, while an improvement,
give you the impression that they could have done better, for one they
should just shrink them down and turn them into pagenotes, all the
"improvement" after book one, to me, seems to be because the
translators could not hide the fact this is a story taking place in
Japan anymore,

Very true, which is why I bought the Japanese version and I am very happy now reading them. :-)

But do you think they really were trying to hide the fact it was taking place in Japan? That would be stupid on so many levels.... Especially since it was published unflipped! >_<

I find it strange that after the 15+ years of the anime boom, fan translations have gone way up in quality and skill and pro translations have been descending into amateurish translations.
