Any Polly fans in the house?
Polly was, along with Ben Jackson, a traveling companion to Doctor #1
and Doctor #2. They were the first contemporary companions, since Ian and
Barbara. Unlike previous female sidekicks, Polly was neither a teenaged
kid, nor an older authority figure, like Barbara or Sara.
There seems to be some confusion over what her surname was supposed to
be. One of the reference books (by Jean-Marc Lofficier) mistakenly reported
it as Lopez, based on a misunderstanding. According to production notes,
she was meant to be Polly Wright, but that was not used on-screen, in case
it would be confused with previous companion Barbara Wright.
According to the books, she and Ben went their separate ways, after
leaving the Doctor, and married other people, but then met up with each
other again, later in life. She was also explicitly named as Polly Wright in
several books and at least one audio.
And Wilkes settled in Canda IIRC, the West Coast.
