Nope. The main criteria for determining the winner of beauty contest
involving women is which woman gives you the best stiffy. A gay man would be
totally unsuitable as a judge
I'm never sure if anyone can really be as shallow as your act.

Just like most women would say "No! Marriage is meant to be between a man
and a woman", but not if they are confronted with that question from a judge
at a beauty contest whose opinion may determine if they will win or not.
Aggy, think of it as an exam. If you had this question on an exam
intended to test your reasoning and the only answer you could give is
"Marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman", you'd quite
rightly fail. Who "meant" it to be that way? Why were they right to do
so? What reason is there for denying one segment of the population a
right enjoyed by others? Even if she'd said "I believe marriage is
about providing a stable environment in which to have and raise
children, something gay couples can't biologically do" it would have
suggested some sign of electrical activity in her brain. "Because I
was told that's the way it should be" suggests she's a twit.

Did you actually hear the full text of her answer? Not that I think it
actually justifies her, nor even that it contraindicates your point,
but it wasn't as simple as "Because I was told that's the way it
should be." It was more, well, bizarre. Her answer seemed to assume
that gay marriage *was* legal, (She said how great it was that we
lived in a country where anyone could choose what kind of marriage
they wanted), then went on to say that "No offense, but for me",
marriage was between a man and a woman, which seems like a perfectly
reasonable position that wouldn't alienate a gay judge, unless it was
a gay *woman* judge who was hoping to marry her. The tricky bit is
that she threw in " in my country" after that "for me". Which does
indeed sound like she's opposing the rights of homosexuals to marry --
but it's just bizarre given the first half of the sentence.
Her anwer was clearly bigoted, but, I don't think hugely so, but it
It damn well was not. The gay judge was bigoted and should have been disqualified from judging the competition for asking political questions. The best thing she should have done would have been to say that this was a question for politicians not contestants in a beauty contest, other then telling the judge to go screw himself.
Interestingly enough, that's precisely the answer that Perez Hilton (the "gay guy" in question)suggested - that she say that it was a political decision, and she'd leave it for the politicians.
Here's a better answer

If that link doesn't work, try this and go to Dr Evil Dub in the player at the top of the page.

As for asking a political question, that's what that section was. One contestant was asked about immigration, another about the bailout money being paid out.
And the "gay question" was preapproved by the producers of the pageant.
Then under Ofcom rules they would have been fined for attempting to promote a political agenda by excluding a protagonist for the opposing view with the same degree of authority from speaking, just like the BBC was denounced for broadcasting the one sided anti-climate changed contest.
But I have to agree, Perez went a little bit ballistic on the answer - way over the top. But then he's made his career on being over the top, so why would anyone expect otherwise.
