Throughout its history the programme used to make predictions, eg in
Unearthly Child Susan mentions decimal currency not having happened in
the UK, yet
Others included referring to the Prime Minister as Ma'am in one of the
Tom Baker episodes with the view that Margaret Thatcher would be PM
soon. Obviously this was more accurate than when the PM was referred
to as "Jeremy" in an earlier episode (JP I think)
My favourite, albeit unintentional prediction comes at the end of The
War Games when a sketch resembling Peter Davison is offered to the
Doctor as one of his potential regenerations. What I cannot recall is
whether he was rejected for being too thin or too young
What other predictions can people remember which have been made in the
programme and have been seen to have come true or, conversely have
been totally inaccurate?
Global warming in The Ark in Space, except it was blamed on the sun
heating up.
That Pluto had a moon, except, there were about 12 moons predicted and
all
of them were artificial suns, hence the episode title The Sun Makers.
Battlefield predicted that Prince Charles would be king in the 1990s and
then RTD goes and puts the queen running out of Buckingham Place in
2008.
None of the stories predicted mobile phones, other than car phones which
were already in use, or the internet.
Robot predicted that China had nuclear weapons which was confirmed by
tests in the 80s or 90s I think which China owned up to, but there were
also suspected tests in the 70s.
Teleportation as predicted in Ark in Space was achieved in the late
1990s.
Cloaking devices as predicted in Shada were created in about 2000.
It think electric powered cars were predicted in the Sea Devils.
Did Doctor Who ever predict Ion Drive and Solar Sails? Those were proven
to work in the 2000s.
Did The Tenth Planet predict the melting of the polar ice caps?
Did The Green Death predict the closure of all of Britain's mines?
Rise of the Cybermen predicted a black president, except he was the
president of the UK. Wait a moment, it can't have been United Kingdom.
United Republic?
...of all which were predicted earlier elsewhere...
Rise of the Cybusmen takes place in an alternative universe.
