They didn't all suddenly drop dead in one night. Didn't you see
that final 'Three days later' caption at all?
That was there about 10 minutes after it started.
No, that was the "Two days later" caption. I'm talking about the
final caption, the "Three days later" one. It was about 40 minutes
into the episode.
Nope. It was about 10 minutes after it began, and then after they
showed it they showed them going to bed and waking up dead, well the
ones that died woke up dead if you get the gist.
Nope. I'm talking about the final caption. The one that was about 40 minutes after it began.
The episode was 1.5 hours long, so it was at the start.
Oh, so the Muslim bloke spent 3 days in bed screwing that bird he
slept with
She was the one of the few who actually did die overnight (although
she had been showing symptoms before, even if she refused to admit
it). But the man then spent three days hanging round the flat, with
her body decomposing in the bed.
Rubbish. He woke up with her dead in the bed beside him. He didn't
spend 3 days wandering around the flat.
But there was that pesky "Three days later" caption between Simone's death and his leaving the flat.
It was on before the Muslim bloke got into bed with that bird.
He got himself drunk and then
left after 10 minutes and nearly ran over the Muslims boy whose
father died in the Mosque the instant they bent over in prayer the
very same night.
No, once again, the deaths in the mosque were _before_ the "Three days later" caption.
No. They came after.
The scene where he nearly ran over the boy came _after_ the "Three days later" caption.
As did the scene where he got into bed with that bird.
Yes, it is stupid. But that's what apparently happened.
No, that's not what actually happened.
What part of "Three days later" don't you undertstand?
There was no 3 days. It was 6 hours.
The prisoner woke
up with his cell mate dead beside him.
Yes, but the cell mate had a long, slow suffering from the virus all
the previous day. Not a quick 6 hour death.
Which shows up the contradictions in how everyone ended up dripping
dead on exactly the same night.
The writers were taking care to show that different people responded
to the virus differently, to make it more believable that some
people weren't affected at all. It seems this subtlety was lost on
you.
They made it completely unbelievable by having them all die in the
same 6 hour period irrespective of how ill they were when they went
to bed, prayer or whatever.
The ones we saw died in the six hour period. But others had died in the days before and after. By the law of averages there has to be one period when most people died. The deaths aren't going to spread out perfectly evenly, with exactly the same number dying every hour for days on end.
The bird he got into bed with had no symptoms and then she was dead. How can that happen in only 6 hours when everyone else had symptoms?
The woman woke up with her
husband dead so she burned his body in the garden. And so on.
Yes, and she woke up right after the "Three days later" caption. We
No. It was a two days later caption and it was on 10 minuets into the
episode, just before they showed the map of America or near
thereabouts.
No. I'm not talking about that caption. I'm talking about the other one. The "Three days later" caption just before she woke up. How many more times do I have to say it?
She didn't spend 3 whole days in bed with him.
(And it _is_ silly that she managed to be unconscious for more than
three whole days without being dehydrated when she woke up. But
that's another matter.)
She wasn't unconscious for 3 whole days. It was 6 hours.
Then _why_ did the caption when she woke up say "Three days later"?
It didn't.
Probably some farmers did survive. But the programme makers decided
not to concentrate on them. There's not much character journey in a
Oh, because they were farmers and the story was about people setting
up a farm, right.
Right. By George, I think he's got it.
What. That if the story was about people setting up a farm, they shouldn't have any farmers in it? Why not? They would be the people best suited to running farm.
As I said before if 10% of the populations survived, that is still 6
million.
The dialogue said "more than 90% of the world's population," so
_less_ than 10% survived.
More than 90% but not more than 99%. It's somewhere between the two,
edging towards the lower end.
There was no mention of "not more than 99%" anywhere in the episode.
And no mention of more and 99%.
Densely populated in the cities but in the country where all the
farms are the virus would have never got to. All the farmers should
be alive and well and the entire premise of the series disappears.
Farms don't get viruses? Tell that to the farmers who were affected by foot and mouth!
Foot and mouth didn't infect the farmers. It infect there livestock only.
The news reports mentioning outbreaks in Europe, America and Beijing.
But did they all drop dead on the same night?
No more than the British victims did.
The blokes PVR was working so there was still electricity.
See, it was a gradual decline, not a sudden stop after all.
They all dropped dead in 6 hours still, even those that didn't have symptoms.
Why didn't they check count
CCCN or whatever that Chinese news channel on Astra/Eurobird is
called.
Because he didn't want to?
Because he was a stupid.
Maybe some people did try that. But the programme makers decided
not to concentrate on them, because that's not part of the story of
Survivors.
Well they should have changed it. They made all those PC loony
changes too it, so how about giving it some real credibility to
balance that out.
Well, it would've made more sense if the survivors were all of one race, sharing a common genetic ancestry. I'm not going to disagree about that.
And it would have made even more sense than that if they were all related to each other.
But despite the changes, it still felt like the old Survivors. Your proposed series wouldn't have felt like Survivors at all.
It would have been better.
Where have all the short
wave HAM radios gone? Why isn't any one broadcasting from an
emergency bunker,
Maybe some people did try that. But, once again, the programme
makers decided not to concentrate on them, because that's not part
of the story of Survivors.
Yer, it's about a bunch of stupids trying to become farmers.
It wouldn't be Survivors without that.
It would have been better.
You don't need a disaster movie to do that.
But it wouldn't be Survivors without that either.
It would have been better.
They could have been washed
up on a desert island after their plane crashed into the sea for
instance, and then behaved really stupidly.
But that wouldn't be Survivors, would it?
It would have been better.
Oh... that's been done. A
better story would be about how an intelligent state and the people
and institutions in it copes with what happens when the worlds
population is annihilated.
But that wouldn't be Survivors either. It would be as unfaithful as the
It would have been better.
liberties the Merlin series is taking with the source material. You wouldn't want more of that, would you?
The remake of Battlestar Gallactica was better than the original because of the changes they made. Merlin is PC loony dominated rubbish because it isn't faithfully to the original historical facts which need no improvement on. That's the problem with people making films and TV. Alexander was ruined because it wasn't faithful to the history and made up all the stuff in India and missed out the campaigns in the Balkans, the coast of Asia-Minor and the siege of Tyre. Troy was ruined because it completely contradicted the historical facts given by Homer and changed the ending. You don't mess with history. History needs no improving on.
In real life, people don't always make the perfect decisions. And
that includes people running job interviews.
But they don't all make stupid decisions all of the time,
You seem to manage it. ;)
You are projecting.
I'm not familiar with the details of the 1973 strike, but I don't
think
So you missed all that Life on Mars stuff on BBC4 then.
Life on Mars didn't go into detail about the rotas of the strikes. Or if it did, I must've missed that episode.
BBC4 documentary season in it did though.
slected shifts in selected power stations taking it in turns to go on
strike. Details of the upcoming strike schedules would be released
to the press in advance so people would know roughly when to expect
power cuts.
Do you think the unions were that stupid? The all went out at the
same time to cause the most damage possible. They also held wildcat
strikes without notice and they didn't release advanced notice to the
papers. They mailed their members in private.
I could be wrong, but I think you're getting mixed up with the other power strikes later in the 1970s.
No.
Anyway, this is more than 90% of _all_ industry and infrastructure
workforces disappearing at once. It's a much bigger scale.
If we can get through the Blitz and when can get through 90% of all
industry and infrastructure disappearing at once.
This is death on a much bigger scale than the Blitz.
Not for the people who lost relatives.
But this is Britain. We just plain don't manage natural disasters
very well. (Good job we've never had a serious one!)
Blitz... Ok, not natural, but we got though it.
Yes, the Blitz was different from a natural diasater. Well done.
But we're talking about your proposed coalition government made of
backbenchers. I don't think they'd be willing to agree to impose
martial law, at least not until it was too late.
Of course they would. They did in Battlestar Gallactica. Why didn't
the writers take a lesson from that.
LOL!
In the Blitz they had a clearly defined enemy to unite against.
And they have one now, the flu.
Flu isn't a clearly defined enemy the way Hitler was. There's a big difference.
Oh, but it is.
Well, like I said, I think there was some stock footage of people
being buried in a mass grave. That should've kept you happy.
But afterwards?
We wren't shown, because it happened during the missing three days.
There wasn't any three days. It was 6 hours.
Not in Survivors. Her character died from the plague.
Did she... How do you know that?
Because I was watching it. Unlike you.
I watched it to. I didn't see her dead.
You didn't see the "Three days later" caption either. You weren't watching very closely.
I saw it. It was on before the Muslim bloke went to be with the bird that woke up dead.
When did they show her body?
When she died, of course.
When was that?
About 35 minutes into the episode.
That early? No, it must have been at least 50 minutes. That's when they started burning bodies.
What's the point of watching the series if Freema's not going to be
in it any more?
Well, next week you'l get to see a windfarm and learn what the government has been doing all this time. That should keep you happy.
Being stupid I presume.
