Like it or not, since this _is_ a remake of the original 1970s series
about setting up a farm, obviously they have to set up a farm. It
wouldn't be a faithful remake if they didn't.

Farmers already have farms. Were all the farmers killed off too? Was the
virus selective against farmers for some reason? Did it only allow stupids
to live?
you need food to live surprisingly enough..... unless you think they
could survive as a car insurance salesmen?

There's plenty of stuff in tin cans which will last them for years. The
first thing they should be doing is going round the supermarkets collecting
the meat from the freezers before it thaws out and goes bad.

Only one or two people need to look after a modern farm which can produce
enough food for a whole city to live on.

The government or what's left of it should be broadcasting on emergency
frequencies and calling everyone to assemble at a common location, so they
can clean up and take over an existing town or city and all the surrounding
farms and power stations, but as I said, the people in this story are all
stupids.

Say the minister suggested this, she checks with the PM... Dead.

So decides to do it herself, gets her PA to contact the
broadcasters... but he is dead

So she tries to contat the broadcaster... bu there is no phones.

She travels over to the studios... but all the staff are dead.

The Farm would be there but they still need to be maintained, cattle
to be fed, irragation setups to be maintained etc.

Or they could grow everything they needed in their back gardens like in The
Good Life.

Or better still, take over the nearest army base, which has its own
generators, water purifiers, and emergency supplies and medical equipment.
After that they could round up a few sheep, goats, pigs and cows and use
them for milk or meat.
for a few weeks, month or even years, but what then? what when all the
supplies run out of go bad?

As I said before if 10% of the populations survived, that is still 6
million. If Ireland can be self sufficient with a population of only 6
million then why can't Britain? All it would take is for the surviving
farmers to take over and farm the best land and use it to provide food for
the rest of the country, while everyone else did their normal jobs. In
fact
they could all move to Ireland and use the infrastructure there.

ypu are putting far too much importance on this 90% figure, it was
just a projection, you probably beleive Brown's figures that we are
"only" going to borrow half a trillion pounds in the next few years as
well?

The stupid arsehole should scrap the unnecessary ID card fiasco and that

the ID card is osting 5.4 billion, most of which will all ready have
been spent. (I don't agree with it myself BTW)

Even if only 1/5000 survived that would still leave 1 million survivors
world wide. They could all get together and take over Poland. Lots of farms
in Poland.
1 million people in the entire world is really not a lot of people,
there is 148m sq/km of land, that is 148 sq/km per person, every
person in the world could be 12km from every other person....




The stupids should be heading for the nearest port and setting sail for
somewhere which has been unaffected. Where have all the short wave HAM
radios gone? Why isn't any one broadcasting from an emergency bunker,

all the episode ended with a buck of people in white coats getting locked
into one in order to find a cure, or could it be that they are looking for
an even deadlier virus in order to kill off the survivors of the last on?

Because it's not the total numbers that matter, it's the relative drop.

For example, the number of people needed to run Britain's power stations
will remain the same. But if 90% of the people who already know how to
run power stations are dead, it makes it that much harder to find or
train
replacements.

Ah, but didn't 90% of the country's power station workers go on strike in
1973 which is about this time that this series first aired? The power
stations still kept going, only on reduced power. Would happen in a world
which wasn't full of stupids is that 90% of the power stations generators
would be shut down if the people weren't there to keep them going or
people
would be move into one power stations from the other nearby in order to
keep
at least one going. We now have wind turbines. These don't need humans to
run them. They run themselves and feed their power directly into the
national grid. How much of out power is now derived from wind turbines, 3%
is it? That's more than enough to keep the national grid running on
automatic if most of the factories and shops and offices are shut. It's
enough to keep communications running so that people can be commandeered
to
do the essential jobs to keep the country running. There are enough oil
reserves to keep the country running for 6 months and nuclear power should
last for about half a decade before the fuel rods need reprocessing. The
country would be back in its feet in not time at all.

fixed but the operator.. nobody around so automatic shutdown.

It would be fixed by computer software and any first year undergrad could

Besides which there's more than enough power coming from wind turbines to
power the entire country, and then some, if only 1 in 5000 survived.

On top of that the survivors could easily make Bio-Diesel. If the internet
is down they could always go to an old fashioned library to find out how.
But I bet you these stupids won't even think of reading a thing called a
book in order find out how to run a farm either. They will all be arguing
with each other day in, day out, and being even more stupid than stupidity.

No, the 2 girls, the Doctor and Freemas character are lying together
and the Doc wakes up and Freema seems to be dead, the Doctor certainly
seems to think the Freema is anyway and lets face it a doctor should
know!
