The canonicity of the Lost Season,
I think it's a reference to Season 6B, which has been invented by fans
to explain the inconsistencies of the Two Doctors - i.e. that the 2nd
Doctor's working for the Time Lords although he should be on the run
from them, and there's no real space for the adventure to take place
(and also that the 2nd Doc looks a lot older). The idea is that the
2nd Doc didn't actually regenerate straight after The War Games, but
spent some time working for the Time Lords in much the same manner
that the 3rd Doctor did. There's a fair bit of fanfic about it -
Terrance Dicks wrote a PDA set in Season 6B, and the Discontinuity
Guide also mentions it (which I think is where the title "6B" comes
from). I seem to remember there was some comic strip with killer
scarecrows involving 6B as well.
It's arse, of course... the 2nd Doc working for the Time Lords comes
from Bob Holmes getting the 3rd and 2nd Doctor confused, and the
Doctor looks older for obvious reasons. But if fans get to write
fanfic out of it and enjoy themselves, best of luck to them.
The pity is they didn't just think up the rationale of the time distortion
thing that Moffat did for "Time Crash" to explain Davison's aged
appearance. Gosh it made me so want Davison to have a whole proper
episode.
Personally I think it would be a wonderful excuse they could present to
Tom Baker to get him to give it one more go. They could write him a scene
where he looks in a mirror and exclaims "What? Where did my hair go? I
haven't looked this haggard since that damned Leisure Hive. I don't know
what's worse, loosing my curly hair or that I will one day turn into a
skinny fop."
Tennant could shoot back, "Oh, it could be worse. Donna here dented the
1980's with the TARDIS and I think that's what made me go all technicolor
dreamcoat for a while. I did get better, though I had an umbrella fetish
for a while after that..."
"What are you babbling about?"
"Oh I've said too much. You'll see."
