OK, ATMOS is foreshadowing the Sontaran Strategy, but may also tie in
with the finale. Then there's the Medusa Cascade, mentioned several
times, missing planets, missing bees, and possibly the Shadow
Proclamation (not so sure about the last)
But what is one to make of this, from one of the seers in Pompeii:
"And you, daughter of London, there is something on your back"?
Any idea what that might mean?
I do like these little hints that RTD drops in.
Since they were at such pains to point out the phenomenal success rates of
the Oracles in Pompeii we can only assume that
"there's something on your back" refers to a monster coming up in a future
episode.
I think we can take it as near-certain that you're correct there, with
a small possibility that the Oracles are indeed 100% correct but that
it's a red-herring. So far, when we've had these giant thousand-foot
neon Huge Plot Hint signs, they've been accurate but not necessarily
helpful. Bad Wolf, for example, told us the where, but the location
turned out to be a relatively minor detail. It didn't even begin to
hint at a Fang Rock-like obliteration of all spacestation life, the
failures and abandonments by The Doctor, or of Rose turning herself
into a minor demigoddess.
On the other hand, the messages to The Doctor are closer to the Bad
Wolf messages to Rose, and it could be that that's the minor plot
element, and the hint from the city auger is a real clue of something
major.
I don't suppose the Giant Spiders of Metebelis3 have taken to feeding on
bees have they?
It's hard to know what's a hint and what's a throw-away line. If the
bees are significant, given their numbers and given that genetic
therapy - big in the news - works by means of a virus, how about the
Giant Spiders are experimenting with a virus that converts bees into
Giant Spiders? Their numbers could be growing a million times faster,
giving them a significant invasion force in a very short time.
