I agree but I'd like to hear from someone who *does* believe in this tosh. Assuming they've thought that deeply about it of course and not just accepted the lie without question. (That excludes a certain resident cretin from replying. ;-))

Let's be fair... nobody knows whether or not its a "lie" until they die.
That's a very weak argument though. It's the thing that such fragile religions are based on: "you'd better believe it just in case it's true". Let's face it, it's more likely the "afterlife" is just social control using the false hopes of the weak minded.
Why is it more likely?
Because there's no proof of an afterlife! Sheeeesh
Is there proof that there is not an afterlife? (And NO this doesn't come down to the difficulty of proving a negative). If there is not then we can accept that belief in it is genuine and is not necessarily a matter of social control.
Now how about you prove that our hopes are false. (That, by the way, is a positive assertion which is not subject to the difficulties of proving a negative)
LOL. Religious goons always come down to that knowing full well it's impossible to disprove an imaginary being. Sorry Andrew but it really IS up to you to convince non-believers of your fairy stories. It'll be interesting to hear your evidence.
