Untill 2005 Woolworths may have had the odd DVD or Video, but not a wide selection to choose from and an entire Isle of DW toys.

Most newsagents didn't stock DWM, now as many as used to stock DWM stock "battles in time", and most stock DWM and DWA (probably Torchwood Magazine too, although I haven't looked).

Yes, old who pulled in 6 million against Corra, and Yes that is impressive. Yes, the BBCs decision to pull a show that could get such figures was ludicrous, and Yes, for some reason they did (back then) want to kill it.

However, NuWho is bigger than even that, and the fact that the BBC have already committed to season 5 (albeit after a hiatus) and several TV mobiles in the meantime leaves us with no reason to believe the same madness as occurred then, will occur now.
