The response was overwhelmingly positive. Here are some examples from
reviews of the Runaway Bride at Amazon:

Stephen, a handful of reviews doesn't prove anything. I talk to many fans
online in plenty of forums and there are tons of people that can't stand
Runaway Bride and don't like Tate - so don't take me for some uninformed
RADW wanker. If you like that wretched ugly woman, then good for you.
Last year's christmas special is one of the worst episodes of the new
series. It almost ranks down there with Fear Her, and that's ashame,
considering the rest of season 3 is so good.

You're missing the point. That may be the opinion of *some* of the people
who are obsessive enough to post to Dr Who forums. I know it is also the
opinion of *some* of the people who post to radw. This is a handful of
people. The overwhelming majority of the audience that tuned in do not share
this opinion.

I'm sorry Stephen, but I don't exactly see where you get this
authoritative information from. Have you gone around asking everybody
what they thought of Catherine Tate?

Much as we like to think we're the only ones who really care about Dr Who,
and we're the only people who know what's good and what's bad, the programme
makers really aren't that worried about what a few anoraks think.

Fine, here's the facts from my point of view; I've spoken to one
person who liked Catherine Tate, and about a dozen who didn't. These
aren't a few anoraks, they're people I know who watch Doctor Who.
They've never been to an online forum and they wouldn't dream about
visiting RADW. They include my mother, for christ's sake. In other
words, they're a reasonable cross-section of the audience, and the
majority opinion ranged from "she was okay in patches but not very
good" to "I wanted to hit her."

My cousin didn't like her, and she's eight.

Where's your cross-section taken from? Is it, to adopt your parlance,
a bunch of people who are obsessive enough to post reviews on Amazon?

The fact is that Catherine Tate is a popular actress who went down well with
the general audience and production staff alike.

She went down well with the production staff, certainly. It's my
opinion that Catherine Tate is far more popular within the industry
than outside it, and there's a huge number of people who find her show
incredibly annoying. So please, don't talk about facts unless they're
actually facts.
