What a *waste*.

why was it a waste? I thought it was great.
Some people expect Who to be something it never has been and never will be.
It's family entertainment and my family loved it.

That's the whole problem; I expected it to be entertaining. i also
expect it to be even vaguely intelligent. Unfortunately, the whole
written-into-a-corner, billions of monsters descending from the heavens,
no way back, we're all done for scenario just screams out for (yet
another) 'Deus ex machina' situation and - guess what - that's what RTD
has given us. Again.

And there's the rub, there was no 'Deus ex machina' at least in the
sense that you imply.

Maybe not literally but didn't the Doctor clearly state that they
couldn't stop the paradox machine without knowing what it did?

yes, they were unaware what paradox it was generating/protecting and had
no idea of the consequences of destroying it.

Then

all Jack did was shoot it,

yes, they knew the consequences then

surely they coud have done that last time> they were there and prevented the whole thing,

they could have at

least rewired it or something.

see your own point above

But what is implied is the lack of consequence, what happened to the
perminently locked co-ordinates and everything else,

I thought the permanently locked coordinates was the only hole.

sorry there were

nice undertones but incredibly badly done and just anither magic
conclusuion.

Magic? The power of words.- Hide quoted text -

Yes magic, if its a telepathic field the Doctor (the old ones at
least) would have built some gadget to link to it rather than just
having people chant, it made no plausable sense and just followed
RTD's classic idea of making something magical to happen. It's the
same problem as The Parting Of The Ways, at least Doomsday had
consiquences they keep "saying so many people died that day", at least
they are acknowledging that something happened not just magially
disappearing even if the solution was a cop out.
