LOTL - spoilers

Well, overall mostly very good.

John Simm was still great, of course- the perfect Master. Yes, even in the
song. Not mad about the shots where Lucy has a black eye and the Master's
picking masseuses - it makes him too common. Other than that, fab.

"It's always the women" - Lesley just asked if this was the case in the
original series and the answer is no, not really. Though it is in Dark Path.
And FOTE. We wonder if there's a theme there...

Plot-wise, everything went as expected- Toclafane/Utopia thing, reset-button
ending, etc. The use of story - the telling of stories - as a weapon is so
great. Martha is fantastic. Shame she's not in the Xmas episode, but she's
back in the first episode of season 4 (what's the betting Dr Tom Milligan
1471s her call and gets the Doctor on that phone?)

Music especially fab again - there better be a volume 2 of Murray Gold's
music. Good direction too.

So what made this one inferior to last week's?

Well, Dobby the House-Doctor for a start. But mainly the fact that they get
to the real heart of the Doctor/Master relationship, how they can't do
without each other, like Steptoe And Son; a real tear-jerking finale... and
then just use it as a lead in to ripping off Return Of The Jedi with the
whole Master as Vader thing. And then topped that with Flash Gordon's tag
scene. *** *right* off. There go a couple of points straight away. I mean
if the moral is that stories are the ultimate hope for humanity, you could
have picked a couple of better examples than ROTJ and Flash Gordon!

Oh well, at least we've got Voyage Of The Damned to look forward to at Xmas.
