For me it was only the last 10 minutes that saved this week`s episode from
being one of the worst yet, I`m amazed by how many people thought it was so
wonderful. The OG forums are full of posters proclaiming it one of the
greatest bits of TV ever ( including Ian Levine ) which just amazes me!

I wouldn't say it was 'wonderful' or 'one of the greatest bits of TV
ever', but it was a reasonably amusing way to spend 45 minutes.

Ok, I'm slightly biased, since I went into it with such low
expectations. Futuristic, outer-space settings and plots have _never_
made much sense to me anyway, so I wasn't particularly surprised or
disappointed that this one didn't either.

It's not like "Why are they wasting all these years pointlessly
sitting in traffic jam?" is a bigger plot hole than "Why are they
wasting all these years pointlessly going where no-one's gone
before?" It's just one of those stupid things we have to accept about
futuristic science fiction.

Twaddle. Can't you see the difference between sitting in a traffic jam for 25 years and using that time discovering new worlds and new civilisations instead?

OTOH it was worth it (but only just) for Ardal O'Hanlon's wonderful
turn as Brannigan, and for the return of the Macra.

So here we are. This is what the new series all boils down to. Who's doing the weeks celebrity guest cameo not the story. It's the McCoy era all over again.
