Repost. Some of my posts to this thread aren't showing up. Sorry if
you see this twice.

It's not contradictory. Martha is stressed out. She has to get
through medical school and on top of that, she has all of her family's
infighting. She needs a break.
She is not stressed out. The Indian medical student might have been, the one
who was in tears, but not Martha.
Martha is _better_ at coping with stress. That's why her family rely
on her to solve their problems. And it's one reason why the Doctor
thinks she'll be a good companion.
But the stress is still there under the surface. Even though she
doesn't show it, it's still there.
She does not need a break nor does she
want one and she doesn't want to get away from her family
She _thinks_ she doesn't want a break or to get away from her family.
It doesn't mean she's right. The truth is she won't _allow_ herself
to want it. It's back to what I was saying about balance. She's
losing balance in this area of her life.
The Doctor has to persuade her to allow herself to want to travel with
him. That's one reason why he _removes his tie_ for the time travel
demonstration. He's subliminally hinting to Martha that she needs to
loosen her ties to family and career so she can travel with him.
and they are not asking her to solve their problems.
Except for those scenes where they do!
If she wants a long vacation she can take a year out
after her exams.
She can, and probably should, but we all know she wouldn't. She won't
allow herself to. She's losing balance trying to juggle the various
aspects of her life, and she'll just end up spending her vacation year
sorting out _even more_ family problems, and end up even more stressed
than when she started.
Clearly the only reason why she went of with the Doctor is
because he's got a time machine and she didn't want to miss the chance of a
life time.
That's _a_ reason. It's not the only one.
There were many occasions of TB just being silly. Of course, it's
fair to say that you prefer it when TB was being silly (I do,
oftentimes) but he was still sometimes just silly for the sake of it.
No he was not.
Sometimes he was.
If she's got the power of a super nova then there is only one form it can
take.
That's a big 'if'. A supernova is the size of a star and fires out a
huge wave of electromagnetic radiation for lightyears in all
directions. Her modified MRI machine is the size of an MRI machine,
obviously, and will send a concentrated, focussed pulse of energy to
the Earth.
Although the amount of energy reaching the Earth's surface could be
more than you'd get from a supernova, the total energy involved might
be less.
And if you can control such an event then you don't need
an MRI scanner. You've already got something like the Hand of Rasilon in
your possession
Is 'Rasilon' ancient Greek for Omega and we've all been using the
wrong word without knowing it?
and that means you don't need to steal any Judoon space
ships to sell on the black market.
You still need to steal them to escape from the moon.
It seems like the inverse assumption works just as well. There HAD to
be a power source present for the story to work so obviously there was
one and why waste time mentioning it when it doesn't affect the story?
Rubbish. If there was a power source it should have formed part of the plot
and been explained.
But the power source wasn't important to the plot. And more
importantly, it wasn't important to the story. (You do know the
difference between story and plot, don't you?)
Anyway, even though it wasn't explained as such, there was one big
clue about how the plasmavore lady got the power.
Remember how the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to boost the power
x-ray machine to get results that weren't consistent with real-world
physics. This was clearly foreshadowing the plamavore lady boosting
the MRI machine to get results that aren't consistent with real-world
physics. The obvious implication is that she used a 'magic wand'-type
device like the Doctor's sonic screwdriver or laser spanner in a
similar way.
I never assumed she tapped into a Judoon device. I always thought she
brought her own.
In which case why would she want to steal a load of Judoon space ships
To escape from the moon.
when she has something which is far more valuable.
Value is relative. Her magic device would be valuable on Earth, but
could be commonplace on her home planet.
Alien tech, takes a licking a keeps on ticking.
Twaddle and nonsense.
And you're an expert in alien tech, are you?
Considering how well she plans in every other regard, you have to
She hasn't planned anything in any regard. Not once were we shown her
planning anything. Any decent writer would have included a scene to
establish a plan was being formed.
A scene with the little old lady writing herself a 'To Do:' list
outlining each step of how she plans to outwit the Judoon? And
crossing each item off the list once she's done it?
In that case, I'm glad RTD's a better-than-decent writer!
An decent writer would have revealed the
plan first and then left it a mystery who was behind it for the protagonists
to solve by themselves
Yes. She could drop the piece of paper with her 'To Do:' list. The
Doctor could find it, and spend the rest of the episode searching
through patient records, looking for signatures that match her
handwriting.
I'm _still_ glad RTD's a better-than-decent writer!
he reveals
the villain from the start and then 3 minutes before the climax a so-called
"plan" is revealed out of nowhere out of the mouth of the villain saying I
was planning to do this,
But the Doctor has to work to trick her into revealing the plan. All
that business about his wife and his bunions. Very funny. Very
Doctorish.
assume that she had this taken care of as well. Of course, for the
No you do not, since not only were we not shown her planning anything but we
were not even shown how she was going to escape either.
She was going to steal the Judoon spacecraft, remember!
So, you want more technobabble added for the sake of having
It is not technobabble I am asking for. ITS A BLOODY PLOT!
In that case, we can add 'plot' to the list of words you don't
understand.
Considering the scanners picked up the remnants of a Timelord's kiss
on a human, using animal blood probably wouldn't have been enough.
What? Explain that to me again. Why didn't she just mug someone if she
wanted blood to disguise her self.
Because she's not a mugger. Because the hospital was more
convenient. And because if there's a serial killer draining bodies of
blood, UNIT might get involved.
What was the point of her being in a
hospital to obtain blood for the purpose of disguise?
Everyone's gotta be somewhere. Being in hospital gave her a bed at
nights. She wouldn't get that wandering the streets looking for
people to mug.
Cheap labour bullshit. How much did it cost to bring them to Earth half way
across the galaxy?
They're made of solid leather. Leather is an Earth material. She
must have made them here, not halfway across the galaxy!
