I know what you mean. There is something intangible about the old
series that draws me to those stories more than the new series. While I
enjoy the new series, the old series has a sort of freshness about it,
it's different and it doesn't seem like everything else that is on the
tube. It's hard to define, but I definitely know the vibe.

The only story from season 1 of the new series that I've seen twice is
Rose and Dalek. I watched Rose twice only because it was the first
story after a long drought of no new stories and I watched Dalek twice
because I thought it was excellent. Oh, and I did watch most of The
Empty Child last night when it was repeated on SciFi Network. That's a
great story. But I could watch just about any Tom Baker story again and
most Pertwee's and Davison stories. I've watched recons of Troughton's
stories more times than I've seen Eccleston's stories.

I can also report that the anticipation of a new story was greater when
I was taping the old series off of PBS than it is with the new series.
There was a couple of times this summer where I almost forgot to set
the VCR, whereas I never forgot back in the 80's when taping the
classic series.

I wish I could define the feeling better...
