So Peter Davison took the stage, chatted with Nicola, and played with a
drink that was brought right to him. Nicola was having a problem
getting a regular tea with milk and sugar. She was brought several
drinks but none of them were what she wanted. I felt like going and
getting her one after the third drink was brought to her. Wish I had.
Would have been quite the story.
Anyway after goofing around for a while peter opens the floor for
questions and someone asks a question of Nicola. Peter pretends to be
offended by this and plays with his cell phone while Nicola tries to
answer.
I asked Peter if he was a cricket nut and he said he was. He told a
great story about someone breaking their wrist in something he was
working on and everyone being more concerned with cricket scores.
I also asked if he had any contact with the new production or any
Christopher Eccleston stories he could tell. He told a story about
bringing his children to the set and showing them what the TARDIS
really looked like on the inside. "It's rubbish" was the reply
to that. He said that when his younger son was introduced to Billie he
attempted to make himself invisible by covering his ears. My oldest
daughter used to do the same thing.
He did say that he knew Chris but did not offer any stories about
Chris. The only story anyone told about Chris was John telling about
how he took someone's cell. I thought this was very telling.
Usually the Doctor actors are quite willing to tell a story about other
Doctor actors.
Of all the Doctor actors I have met so far Peter had made himself the
most approachable. He was funny and kind and awkward in that fantastic
British way.
Finally the closing Ceremony was upon us and the convention organizer
took the stage and asked everyone to buy season tickets. Invited
another convention organizer onstage who asked that the organizer be
given a round of applause. The organizer thanked the supporting
members by name. She then invited up someone who said that if more
people had bought tickets in advance they could have had another guest.
The organizer then told everyone to go home. It was possibly the most
unprofessional thing I had ever seen an announcer do. I know it was a
joke, so I slept on this for two nights before posting this -but come
on! Next year try thank you for coming or something. I didn't like
being dismissed like an unwanted intruder.
Other than that it was a good convention. It was well organized and
the hotel was suitable to the occasion. I plan on coming back next
year.
