I don't imagine they'd need to - for all viewers who don't see this
will know, they could have gone there, done something thoroughly
uninteresting, and then come back. at the end of the story when Adric
first stowed aboard the episode ended with the Doctor saying he'd take
Adric home; it was never explained in subsequent stories why he didn't
get back to Alzarius (or whatever the planet was called) or why Adric
stayed around, but who really cared?

In any case, I imagine this will be on the Christmas Invasion DVD as an
extra - they'll need something to put on it beyond a single special,
even a slightly longer-than-normal one.
