I'm finally getting around to sitting down and giving your TR the time it deserves! Forgive my tardiness.
We left SW FL around 9:30am. I always kind of wish we could be at WDW in time for lunch. What really happens though is that we leave a little later than would make that possible, and then we all get hungry around 11:15 and have to stop for lunch.
I can't stand dinking around on the way there, but we always have hours of it, mostly involving finding TAB and eating at Steak & Shake.
DH says that when he was in high
school, the school band took a trip to Circus World. He had no interest in going, so he didn't, which made the band director very mad. He got demoted to last chair over it.
Mandatory Fun.
Anyway, we arrived at POR somewhere around 1:45. Feels great to be back! The place looks fantastic! Though we hadn't done the internet check-in beforehand, we had no wait at the desk. Our room was #8003, in the Acadian House. It overlooked the courtyard fountain, near the passage to the riverfront walkway. I loved the location.
That is a great location!
> The plan was to make a quick grocery run, then return our rental car and
take Magical Express back to the hotel. But you know what? Once we got to Disney World, any practical desire to make a grocery run completely flew out the window. So we decided, okay, fine, we'll pay crazy prices in the gift shop for milk and cereal, and let that be that.
Amen, sister! Buying overpriced groceries at the resort stores is part of the Disney experience. It's all part of letting go and letting money become something purely symbolic and magical... LOL
I figured the kids and I could stay behind and hop in the pool while DH took the car back, but the kids would have none of that. Not only did they not want the family going in separate directions, nor Dad to have to do the work while we had the fun, but they also had good memories of Magical Express from last year and wanted to do it again. So we all journeyed back to the airport, handed the car over, and headed for the Magical Express line. The Magical Express people were a little perplexed by the fact that we had absolutely no luggage and were not expecting any to arrive at the hotel later.
OK now what the... never heard this one before!
For part of the time while they were in the arcade, I went over to the store and shopped around a bit. I saw that they still have the t-shirt that says, "Por favor, mantenganse alejado de las puertas!" I love that!
I've been trying to talk Joe into buying that one for a few years now, but he's got too many t-shirts already. I want the surprise release pin with that phrase, from years ago, but it's still like $60 + if you can even find one for sale.
We had dinner at the food court, and we tried the Salad Your Way and the Pasta Your Way offerings. They both turned out good. Since we always feel that it can be a challenge to get vegetables when you're in vacation dining mode, we were glad to be able to get a tasty salad.
I really wish they would have something like that in the parks.
