Gone are all the Stuckey's (http://www.stuckeys.com/) I remembered stopping to re-fuel at and would buy junk novelty toys and collect their stickers as a kid. Well, I did find two Stuckey's in Texas but they are just part of your regular gas station mini-mart these days, only selling their branded snacks and nothing like I remember them.
There are a few of the original Stuckey's left. I know there is one on I-20 between Birmingham and Atlanta that's pretty much unchanged.
Instead, there are now Cracker Barrels on every corner. Well, at least all the billboards announcing their many locations made it seem that way. Didn't manage to eat at a single one during the trip but I have been to one in Orlando and also one in Arizona. I love their country store. I bought a soy Christmas candle there last September while visiting family. Why am I making such a big deal over going here when you all probably have a CB in your backyard? Unfortunately, we are deprived of this chain in California. There's a reason but I forget why.
There are several cultural and political issues that are the reason. We won't get into them for fear of inciting a riot, but let's just say that neither California nor Cracker Barrel care much for the other.
BUT... the real gem of the trip (and what is more relevant to this group and all I really intended to post about... honest) was the stop we made in Marceline, Missouri.
That's right. Walt Disney's Hometown.

Cool!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and letting me share my experience. I already want to go back.
Thanks for sharing it, Lisa. I enjoyed reading.
I did take a few pictures outside the museum and around Marceline and was thinking of figuring out how to post them to flikr, if there is any interest. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures inside the museum itself.
Yep, there's interest! Please do post them!
