One of them was a nephew of someone I know. He did the college

He'd been there about 2 years, and 60% of his dept was eliminated.
But, he got 4 weeks notice and 10 TEN weeks severance pay. I found
that exceedingly generous! I'm laying off people with 20 or 30 years
experience and they get 2 weeks notice and no severance.

I was interested in the article in the Sentinel when it discribed WARN. I first heard
about this 60 days notice a couple weeks ago and was surprised about it.
When I was working for the phone factory, when it was time to go, you went. But
there was a severance package but NO sixty days advance notice. I think the
fear with some white collar workers is that they will walk out the door with the business
secrets so giving them 60 days of admin leave with full benefits seems to take care
of that worry. If Disney has to pay a fine, so be it but I bet they didn't want people who
were leaving sitting around. I know people who have given two weeks notice that were told to leave NOW.
It's a mess to be sure but other businesses go thru this compression
and decompression when times are hard. I am just sad it's happening to so
many people I know. Some are prepared for it and some aren't. And I am praying
that our son in law keeps his job with the new baby! They lost their family health
insurance just recently so that's a big worry. Maybe they can get on a govenment
program, maybe not. OK enough of my worries. They are nothing compared to
other people's. Lisa
