Since you pegged it at 1.2%, it would be intersting to see which
businesses grew at that rate.

Based on the stock market indices, not very many. But of course there are plenty of small business not on the stock exchanges that grew tremendously and even some large companies that have done well. In fact, Disney as a corporation is looking at double digit gains in operating income, in fact over 20%.

Unless you're a highly skilled surgeon
on your way to save someones life, flying is NOT essential.

I suppose you should define "essential". If you strictly mean life-saving, then flying is not essential at all because there are plenty of surgeons without having to fly them around the country. The word I used was "need".

It's
unfortunate that not everyone will be able to fly home for
thanksgiving/xmas/neighbors birthday party or whatever reason people
use. We are already seeing people avoid some trips & perhaps flying
will become what it once was - a good way to get around for the rich!

I do think some people may "need" to fly home. No, it may not be life-saving essential, but if I had a parent, child or spouse out of town that was in need of my help, then I would need to fly. In the business world, there are plenty of people who need to fly. yes, some things can be done via telephone or video conference or even e-mail, but some problems just need the presence of certain people to be resolved.

As for Joe Sixpack taking his family on a plane trip for vacation, well, that is a fairly recent phenomenon. Twenty years ago, it was rare to see families flying for vacation. Air travel was for the rich and business travelers. It's only over the last decade or two where planes have been filled with families. I guess it's going back to the way it was. Personally, I don't mind that. I really don't care for flying anyhow since all the ridiculous (and mostly for show) security procedures that have been put in place over the last 10 years. Unless I just absolutely positively have to be there in less than 10 hours, I'll drive.

You have to look at the basic essentials to live, like food, clothing,
shelter & health care ; get that taken care of before you look at
anything else. A lot of people are struggling just to get essentials &
anything above that is subject to major shift.

And I doubt many of them are really upset about airlines charging higher prices and surcharges for checked bags and bottled water and Disney raising ticket prices. In fact, people who are truly struggling to attain basic essentials are probably not even aware of Disney's price increases. They likely are too busy with their struggles to watch TV or read news stories. At least I hope they are, and they aren't sitting in their Federal housing with their welfare checks and 12 kids running around.

The experts that
allowed this to happen are still in charge of " fixing " it & until
they are replaced, nothing will get better.

That sounds like a political statement. If you want to get into that argument, go right ahead, but feel free to leave me out. Personally, I don't blame others for my own problems. If I lose my job, I go find another one. If I don't make enough at the one I have, I educate and prepare myself for a better one. No one person or government is responsible for me. *I* am responsible for me.

Companies like GM that
took the public for what they could with overpriced/oversized
vehicles, built with planned obsolesence in the product, are now
reaping what they sewed for decades.

I generally don't like to blame things on "consumers", but they share at least part of the blame. First of all, the demand for GM's big SUV's far outstripped demand for all their other vehicles combined. They couldn't make enough of them and at one time, they were almost *three* model years ahead of the calendar year because they had already gone over two year's of CAFE limits. Remember, GM (or Ford or any other auto maker) didn't force customers to buy big SUV's. Consumers *chose* to buy them.

As for their vehicles being overpriced, they are. When they are paying unskilled, uneducated factory workers over $100,000 per year, they can't be selling them for a reasonable price. Of course these are the same workers who lived high on the hog for years, but now that GM is closing their factories, are now struggling. Personally, I do feel for these people, but then again, just like GM itself that lived the high life without regard for the future, they did the same and now they are paying the price. Of course we can also blame the consumers a bit for this, too because had they not continued to pay the ridiculous prices for GM's vehicles, GM would not have kept building them that way.

Even a trip to third-world mexico
is getting pricey as even the peso is rising against the dollar & it
could get a lot worse! YMMV.

It can get a lot worse, but it also can get a lot better. Really, it's your choice. Are you going to do your part to better yourself and in turn better the country for all of us, or are you going to sit back and point the finger of blame and wait to be "rescued"?
