What? You mean that's not the real sound of those Saturn engines? ;-)
Actually, GM has long been adding resonators and special mufflers to
their vehicles to make the engines "sound better". They have even
experimented with engine-driven sound generators that serve absolutely
no purpose except to make a smaller engine sound larger. Basically,
this would give your 4-banger Saturn that nice V8 sound.
GM is wasting their time. All you have to do is punch a couple holes
in the flexpipe that connects the Saturn's engine to the catalytic
converter (or wait for the road salt to do the same). You don't need
no stickin' resonator to get a mighty impressive sound out of that
1.9liter four-banger. Trust me. I speak from experience (having had to
replace TWO exhaust systems on a 1995 Saturn SC2). It is possible that
a Saturn without an exhaust system could potentially drown out a
Safari truck.
