Actually, he was a one-trick pony. All he did was assert that business
decisions are always made to increase shareholder value, and anytime
Disney management decision was second guessed, he justified it with that
assertion. Unfortunately, having not really been involved in the
decision making processes of large corporations, he failed to realize
that often times, ego and ignorance often played as big a role as did
supporting the corporate mission.

As often as not, Brian would respond to posts along the line of "this is how
I wish Disney would do xyz because it would be better for me, so that's what
they should do". And he would be right in pointing out that a company is
generally more interested in what the bulk of its customers will do than
with what any one particular customer, or a small niche of customers, will
do. That would be of little consolation to those in the minority, of
course. To some extent, it was a lot of two parties talking past one
another about two different (though related) subjects.

One could see Brian as a "business theoretician" - focused on how businesses
act in principle, even though it will sometimes not reflect what actually
happens. This manifested itself most famously in "good people doing a good
job" - something certainly not always the case, but probably accurate more
often than the "doom & gloomers" (did Brian originate that phrase here?)
would suggest.
