One of my party on our trip last week walked out of EPCOT after 10 minutes. Said it was
nothing but a
glorified shopping mall. Actually I agreed with him (but I stayed).
So he never rode Soarin, Test Track, or any of the other rides? Didn't
bother to catch Off Kilter or the other live acts. Never enjoyed the
Food & Wine festival booths? Wow! that's sad.

Never stopped to smell the roses in the Epcot rose garden....

Or watched the dancing fountain...
Come on, Fizzie, Judy... Don't you get it? The fountain, the rose
garden, Test Track, Soarin', Off Kilter, other live acts, other rides
and the Food and Wine Festival stuff... That's all just
"glorification" added onto the shopping mall, thus creating a
"glorified shopping mall."

One would be silly to spend more than ten minutes in the place! ;)

Maybe he was expecting the Mall of America...;-)

Maybe he was expecting EPCOT Center?
(The real themepark that used to be there)

It's not that you still can't find good things to do...
But, the "glorified shopping mall" critique has a lot of truth to it.- Hide quoted text -

Quite a decision to make about a place in only 10 minutes.....

He had been told by many friends, golfing buddies, etc, that he would enjoy Disney World, and I think
he was just determined to prove them all wrong. He has a naturally contrary nature anyway.

Actually what I originally posted wasn't quite true. He *wanted* to leave after 10 minutes. We were
outside The Land at about 3pm after a late start, and the quoted waiting time for Soarin was 30
minutes. He said "I'm not waiting more than 10 minutes for anything", and I told him he wouldn't do
much if that was the case. I got him on the ride, but he wasn't impressed.

Other highlights from that day:

Sue and I wanted to sample the delights of the Food and Wine kiosks and stuff. He wanted to eat a
"proper" meal, so we ended up in Tutto Italia around 7. As others have posted, this place is not
cheap, and the wine is particularly expensive. 550 dollars for 6 of us seemed a little steep for
America, even in WDW, and thats after he had baulked at a second bottle of wine. Those are London West
End prices.
(Even I wasn't impressed with either the choice of food on the menu, or the food itself I have to
admit)

He marched past every pavilion and would not even walk inside any of them. Eventually we split him out
and met up later. Missed the new "O Canada" and others.

He wouldn't stay for the fireworks, but preferred to walk back to the minivan. Unfortunately I had the
keys in my pocket, so when the rest of us got back after the fireworks, we found him sitting against a
wheel.

The reason we did a late start was because he had played golf that morning and we had wanted to sync
up with the first Beach Boys performance. Unfortunately I think he had also "replaced some fluids" at
the golf club bar after his round, so he was already partly drunk anyway. He is a happy drunk
normally, but is obnoxious when he comes down from it and that coincided with our arrival at EPCOT.

I guess the biggest lesson I learnt was that some people just don't "get" Disney World. Talking to
people here its easy to get the impression that everyone likes it, or would like it if they went.
Well, thats not true. Four of us were very uncomfortable with this guy - rather like walking on
eggshells the whole time or waiting for a ticking bomb to go off - and though his wife supported him,
she spent most of the holiday apologising for him.

Needless to say I have not written, and will not be writing, a trip report! Most days would start
"Brian an arsehole again".
