2007 Food and Wine TR: Days 5 & 6

We slept in a little this morning, having nowhere that we wanted to be
early, and didn't get up until a little before 8:00 AM. Yep, that's
sleeping in for me While I typed on the report, Mom ran to the food
court to grab us a pastry for breakfast. With an early lunch
scheduled, we didn't want to fill ourselves up on breakfast and so we
split a cheese danish. Mom pronounced the food court as being
"horrible, horrible, horrible " this morning. The resort has
definitely filled up for the weekend and, while our room is still
pretty quiet, you do now here more turbo toilets going off from time
to time.

The DTD bus stop was pretty empty when we arrived and our bus came
quickly. After stopping at the other two All Stars and Typhoon Lagoon,
we exited at the Marketplace. I think the Marketplace is the one spot
in Downtown Disney that is decidedly unmagical at nighttime It's much
better to browse the shops in the morning which is what we did today.
We saw quite a few potential purchases but didn't make any for now.
Once we are over at SSR, it will be much easier to get to the
Marketplace to get anything we decide we just can't live without. The
stores we toured were: Basin, World of Disney, Pooh Corner, The
Christmas Shop, and Toy Story.

We had lunch at Raglan Road around 11:30AM and the dining room was
wonderfully quiet. They have changed their lunch menu: you now have a
choice of an entree and one side. Mom had the Portabello Burger with a
green salad on the side and I had the Haddock's Hut (a smoked haddock,
potato and leek quiche) and a Mayo Egg Naise salad which was a salad
with a soft boiled egg and watercress. My quiche was excellent and my
salad was good, if a little plain. The egg was more of a hard cooked
egg- I had expected a nice runny yolk but it was definitely completely
cooked. Mom enjoyed her burger but it was huge and she could only eat
about half of it. For dessert we split Dundon's-something-or-other
which was a strawberry pavlova with vanilla pod ice cream floating in
a champagne consomme. It was exactly what we were looking for:
something sweet but light and not too filling. We left full and
wondering how we will ever manage to eat an appetizer, entree and
dessert each on the dining plan!

After lunch, we caught the 1:10 showing of Elizabeth: The Golden Age,
not bothering to get popcorn of drinks. The movie was very well done,
acted well, and just not as good as the first Elizabeth. Some
historical inaccuracies aside, I just felt a little disconnected from
Elizabeth and the rest of the characters. Of course, Clive Owen
strutting around in fancy swashbuckler attire, so the admission price
was definitely money well spent ;)

From DTD, we took a bus to Beach Club, then entered Epcot via the
International Gateway. I have to say, the route for Beach Club and
Boardwalk from DTD is just horrible: Typhoon Lagoon first, then Swan,
the Dolphin, then Yacht, and then finally Beach. It took us a very
long time to get there, needless to say!

In Epcot, we stopped to split a snack of Fish and Chips in England and
then headed over to America for the Juice Newton concert. Along the
way, we stopped to listen to Mom's boyfriend sing with Mo'Rockin. The
Juice Newton concert was not nearly as crowded as the Little Richard
concert which is a shame as she was terrific. She sounds great, she
looks great, and she was a really nice person. She did most of her
hits (Angel in the Morning, Love's Been a Little Bit Hard On Me, The
Sweetest Thing) with the exception of Queen of Hearts, which surprised
me. She might have done it later on, but we only stayed for one
concert.

We spent the rest of the evening touring World Showcase, catching
Illuminations in Japan and then spent another 2 hours at Extra Magic
Hours sampling some more food from the booths. I can't remember
everything we had now, but I do know a few of the things. They are:

1. Vegetable Roll and Beef Roll from Japan (both good and a nice
little twist on traditional sushi). I also had the plum wine here as
it's one of my favorites. It's sweet, but very good from time to time.

2. Packzi (sp), an apricot doughnut from Poland (not worth a taste).

3. Apple Strudel from Germany (surprisingly fresh and very tasty)

We also repeated a couple of favorites, including Escargot and the
Quiche in France. I think we left Epcot about 11:00 and had a very
easy bus ride back to All Star Resorts.

** A Few Odds and Ends**

Somethings that I have noted, or omitted, over the past couple of
days.

1. Mom ran into two women smoking in the women's bathroom in the
American Pavilion. Not trying to hide it at all, just flat out smoking
right there near the sinks.

2. Have you ever noticed that almost all the guys wearing Grumpy
shirts have wedding bands on their fingers? Makes you wonder what's
making them so Grumpy ;)

3. I'm typing this at the end of Saturday, Day Six. I don't want to
get behind, so I'm just going to do a whirlwind summary:

Day Six we spent at Animal Kingdom. We caught Festival of the Lion
King first thing which was a great choice: very small crowds, great
seats, and fresh performers. It was rainy at first today, but then
just stayed mainly overcast. You would never have thought that it was
a Saturday by the crowd level: It was much quieter than usual! Guess
the rain scared most people off. They now have paper straws at the
restaurants, and they are offering breakfast at Pizzafari. All the
food stands were open, and Tamu Tamu was serving sandwiches, so food
wasn't that terribly hard to find or get. They have also changed the
Safari script: no more "They are tommies, TOMMIES", and no more Little
Red. The elephant is there at the end, but they don't do the Big Red,
Little Red thing. Not sure if that is a permanent change or not, but
they still have the lovely radio music :) Other things we did: Kali
River Rapids, Primeval Whirl, Everest (we got the front seat without
asking!), and both trails. The animals are much more active in the
late afternoon, so if you have a chance, about 4:00 take a tour on the
trails.

Ok, that's it for now. I'm caught back up and tomorrow we will be at
SSR, so it will be easier for me to get the TR done: we will most
likely spend more time at the resort once we move. All Stars just
didn't have the appeal to bring us back for swims or naps, nor did we
really feel the need. Bringing books to the parks, taking extended
breaks, kept the parks as relaxing as sitting around the pools believe
it or not. Tonight we are finishing up our laundry and packing our
bags...Tomorrow we start 15 days at Saratoga Springs!
