There has been a UK version about as long as there has been the Japanese

There are
some devices that can do a seamless conversion but they tend to be rather
expensive and so if you buy a converted UK tape you never know if you will
get one done well (and expensively) or poor quality (and cheap).
Oh, so we're talking tapes? I was hoping there was a UK DVD available.
I can play those no problem. But I probably would have heard about
that if it were the case, so I should have guessed that the UK releases
were tapes (or Laserdiscs, as in Japan, yes?).
I'm still holding all my virtual fingers crossed in hopes that someday I
will be able to get a real US version of SotS (I only have the virtual
fingers crossed as it is very hard to type with my physical fingers are
crossed). :)
Good thinking. ;-)
One thing. It is possible to get a dual format player which would allow you
to view a PAL tape (UK version) on a regular NTSC (US version) TV. So if you
REALLY must see the movie you could buy one of these dual format players and
then order a UK tape.
Probably not worth the effort at this stage of the videotape lifecycle...
