My heart goes out to this family, but trying to make it out like Disney
did something wrong after the fact is just plain crazy! I live out in
rural Indiana, and a 3 minute response time to a 911 call is
incredible! Around here, we might get a first responder here in that
time frame, but they don't carry portable defibrilators around with
them, nor are they trained to use them.
Does everyone realize that in a hospital setting, only certain medical
personel are trained to use defibrilators? I have a bachelors degree
in nursing. I worked labor & delivery for 6 years. Granted, this was
almost 10 years ago, but at that time in the community hospital that I
worked at, generally only the emergency room & ICU nurses were ACLS
(Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certified. They were the ones who were
trained to use defibrilators. So, I kind of shudder when I hear people
talking about the portable difibrilators being available for use by the
general public.
I wonder how many millions of people have ridden RnRC without any
problems? I'm guessing that the ratio of deaths to total riders is not
even statistically significant. (No, that doesn't lessen the
significance that a death has on a family, and it's very unfortunate
that this happened while this family was on vacation. But why tear the
incident apart to try to find Disney at fault?)
