Would this be trolling? I think so.

Ed, that's not trolling. That's not evening a flame. It's just some
light-hearted sarcasm.

I took it as an insult. Trolling is puposely trying to piss someone
off isn't it?

No, not entirely. The purpose of trolling is to create a thread that gets very long and full of arguments. A troll takes pride in how long the thread and arguing can go on. Like I said, Google some of Paul T.'s posts and you'll get the idea. He has some that reached nearly 1,000 posts. He is the undisputed master of RADP trolling.

Good thing is, I always consider the source before deciding if it's
worth bothering with. It wasn't.

With Dillon, it's not worth "bothering with" because I am sure he meant it in a tongue-in-cheek manner. While I am sure you took it as an insult, Dillon doesn't know you, you don't know him, so how can you really be insulted? It was really just a funny one-liner type response, sort of in the form of Don Rickels.

By the way, "trolling" is a term that is similar to the fishing
activity. A "troll" is a poster that tries to "hook" an unsuspecting
person into an argument. A trolls will often start a thread that
appears to be on-topic, but is really there for the purpose of
creating controversy and arguments.

Yes, exactly.

So, Dillon was not trolling, he was just poking at you.

Hard to tell the difference.

No, trolling is baiting someone into a pointless argument that at first appears to be on-topic. While Dillon's comment may seem like he's baiting you into an argument, and maybe he was, that's not trolling, that's just, well, trying to start an argument. See, for trolling, you have to be sort of stealthy. You have to come in with some comment or question that sounds reasonable, but is only the opening for you to create a long, argumentative thread. For example, a troll may really want to gay-bash, so he starts a thread about dirty bathrooms at Disney, and how he wants to bring his own toilet seat covers. When someone takes the bait and begins trying to honestly discuss bathroom hygiene, the troll then directs the conversation toward gays and how they might have AIDS, etc.
