So, if you were to eat 4,000 calories worth ofrubber balls and 4,000 calories worth of sugar, would you gain the
same amount of weight?
No, because if I ate 4ooo cal. of rubber balls I'd be dead:)
I wouldn't be so sure about that! I believe one small (1" in diameter) rubber ball is almost 1,000 calories, so it would only take 4 or 5! Not my idea of a good meal, but not enough to kill you.
I may not be able to change your or anyone else's mind, but maybe if
you will think about what I say and go research fro yourself, you
might learn something you didn't know and maybe that knowledge might
help you. If nothing else, you will learn that I am basing my
statements on something that is real and I'm not just making up
things for the sake of arguing.
You won't change my mind about the whole calories in/calories out
thing. I still think that if I eat too many calories (even if it's
all the "right" foods) I will gain weight. With that said, I
appreciate what you wrote. It does make sense and I do know most of
that already.
OK, you can keep believing what you want, and if you are able to control your weight through calorie counting (or maybe you have no weight problem at all), then that's great. If not, then maybe you could consider thinking outside of that box just to see what low-carb is all about.
I did read Sugar Busters once -- when it first came out. So, tell me,
what's a normal day for you food-wise? Is it hard when you're at WDW
to stay on track?
On a "regular" day, I do not eat breakfast. I never have been much of a breakfast person, mainly because if I eat anything within the first hour after I wake, it upsets my stomach. I usually have several cups of black coffee up until about 11:00am. On the rare occasion that I do eat breakfast, it's usually scrambled eggs, bacon and/or sausage. Sometimes I have a few slices of whole-grain or rye toast with butter and sugar-free jam. Adkins makes a low-carb waffle mix that's not bad, so I have that with sugar-free syrup every once in a blue moon.
For lunch, I usually go home to eat (I only live 7 miles from my office). My favorite lunch of the moment is a South Beach Diet brand low-carb rollup "kit". These contain two small low-carb, high fiber/protein rollups with some deli meat and cheese, and a sugar-free Jell-O cup. Sometimes I eat a sandwich made with deli meat, cheese, mayo, mustard and whole-grain bread. If I'm in a hurry, I might just have (get this!) Vienna sausages and a slice of cheese. If I eat out, I generally get a salad with some sort of grilled meat (beef, chicken or seafood). Maybe once a month, I have some friends I meet for Chinese buffet. I avoid the rice, and I skip the noodle and "sweet sauce" dishes. I do eat egg rolls, sushi, and soup, though.
I generally do not snack, although I keep a large container of mixed nuts in my desk drawer at work, and at home, I keep a bag of Stacy's baked pita chips handy. Fast food is almost always a no-no, although if pressed, I'll choose Arby's and get a wrap, or a salad over a burger and fries.
For dinner, I generally do the cooking. We grill out a lot - steaks, burgers, chicken, seafood, pork chops, Italian sausage - if it can be grilled, I will grill it (pun fully intended - for those that know, my last name is in fact "Grill"). Some of my favorite side items include salad, baked sweet potatoes, whole-grain bread, cottage cheese, steamed asparagus, and pretty much any vegetable (except corn, carrots or potatoes). Of course on a low-carb diet, I can saturate my favorites in all sorts of butter and cream sauces without having to worry about all those "fat calories". I also like to make homemade lasagna, spaghetti, and other Italian dishes. I always use whole-grain pasta and never use any pre-made sauces, mainly to avoid their added sugar and corn syrup. Last night, I marinated chicken breasts in parmesan garlic Italian dressing, grilled them, and served them over whole-grain fettuccini with homemade Alfredo sauce accompanied by a side salad.
I am an ice cream junky, and thank goodness there is a huge selection of very good low-carb frozen treats. I do drink, and while alcohol does have carbohydrates, they are generally not quickly digested, or even not digested at all. The worst thing about alcohol is generally what it's mixed with. I solve that by drinking either red wine or Scotch with water or club soda. Of course I never drink anything with sugar or corn syrup - I always opt for water or diet soft drinks.
I do occasionally allow myself a "treat" of sugar-free cookies. While they are sugar-free, they are definitely not carb-free as they are usually made from highly refined flour, which is as bad as sugar. Sometimes I do crave some baked treat, so I make my own sugar-free whole-grain cookies (a variation on the infamous Neiman-Marcus recipe), but they usually don't taste so great. I also don't deny myself the rare slice of birthday cake or an offering of a homemade dessert by the host of a dinner party. I mean, I have to be polite even if it means I might gain a few ounces, right?
As for eating at WDW, I do still try to stick to a low-carb diet as much as possible. Of course a Mickey ice cream bar is not to be missed, nor is Dad's Sundae at 50'sPTC. I sometimes even have (gasp) French fries! Well, it is vacation, right? :-)
Congrats on the weight loss -- that's a really, really tough thing to
do -- that's awesome:)
Like I said, I still have about 20lbs I need to drop. I've been doing fairly well lately, but just when I'm on the right track, vacation comes around! Hmm, it's less than three months to the DCL cruise now. I guess I need to buckle-down and get a head start because I know I'll be taking a "diet vacation" on that trip! :-)
