Actually, Google Earth has an option that shows the T stations very much
like the link you gave. (Great link, BTW). "Subway" and "Commuter Rail" are
options for map overlays in Google Earth,

I had a similar revelation about Boston a few years ago. I had always
learned to find a subway station, and go where you needed to go. I
finally put a map of Boston on a map of my home town, at the same scale,
and y'know it's not really that big a city. Getting from the aquarium to
the science center to Cambridge isn't that bad a walk, but it can take
quite a while on the T. More fun on the T though.
(Getting a little off-topic here....)
I hear you on that one, Tom. I learned Boston via the T when I was an
intern at the State House one summer. I learned which stops were close to
what landmarks, so I learned Boston as lots of little circles radiating
outward from the T stations. It's only been recently, now that I have
friends living in the city and I get to walk through it more often, that
I've learned how all these little circles connect and intersect with each
other above ground. (It's all those darn curving streets that throw me
off. That, and the fact that Boston Common is 5-sided...)
My friend lives about two blocks from the Mass Ave stop on the orange
line. When I first started going in, I'd take the green line all the way
in to Park and then hop over to the orange line through the underground
walkway. It wasn't until I actually mentioned I was doing this to my
friend that he pointed out that it's only about 6 blocks from the Hynes
green line stop, which shaves off at least 20-25 minutes. (Though I still
sometimes take the long way around if the weather is REALLY cold, windy
and crappy and I just don't feel like walking, especially if I'm carrying
anything more than a backpack...)
What the T REALLY needs to do is to start re-publishing the fold-out map
that my parents got back in the very early 80's that was a streetmap of
downtown Boston that showed where all the stations and subway lines were.
(The map was so old that the Harvard-to-Alewife stretch was marked as
"future expansion")
Here's the coolest thing I've seen in a long time - something I always
wanted to see, instead of the T maps drawn with straight lines that don't
tell you where the stations are. This fixes that, plus puts it inside
Google Maps so you get all those features too.

Now, after the WDW monorail expansion, we'll need something similar to
know where all the stations are. Let's see, if I take the DTD Northbound
beam toward PO-R, but transfer at POFQ, swing by the Moroccan Epcot
station........ (there, we're back on topic!)
