Re: Monorail meltdown

My husband and son went on this tour the last time we went down to the
world. They absolutely loved it. My son is a huge train fan and has been
since he was a little guy (he is now 14). They both highly recommend the
tour to everyone.

I'm a railfan. Cab rides are one of our goals in life. Of course, I
also worked extra board for the Southern Pacific (RIP) so I got more
than my share of those, but I still live for a quick 50 mile jaunt.

The walk back to the car sometimes sucks.

Don't I know it. I tend to look at runs that return to the point of
departure. :) BTW ever done a cab ride on a coal fired live steam
engine? Done it several times. Of course I got the chance because I
had helped with the flue cleaning the prior winter. At the time I was
still "svelt" enough to be the only one small enough to fit through
the firebox door to guide the brush into each flue pipe. :) I came
out even more grimed up than Burt in Mary Poppins (hows that for
bringing this back to Disney). :)

We have a local club of old railroad guys, The Heart of Dixie Railroad
Museum. Years ago, they used to offer a one-day excursion between
Birmingham and Chattanooga using a steam engine. I've taken that trip
three or four times and it was always a lot of fun.

So out of the three of you (Rodney, Dillon, Randy) and anyone else still
reading despite the thread title, have you tried the steam train backstage
tour at MK? Once my son hits 10 years old (he's 8 now), I think we're
there. Doesn't hurt that my boss is a live steamer - used to own his own 7
1/4" gauge locomotive, which I've gotten to drive once or twice.
