My favorite sources of information on WDW are www.allearsnet.com, and
"The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" by Bob Sehlinger and Len
Testa. Lots of useful information in both.

Six or seven nights would definitely not be too many, imo. There's a lot
to see, and you might want to have some time to enjoy your hotel as well.

As for taking the monorail or boat to the parks... there is no resort
that has monorail and/or boat transportation to *every* park. The
monorail goes to MK and Epcot, and three hotels are on the monorail:
Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian. You would have to take
WDW buses or your own rental car from those resorts to MGM and AK. Beach
Club, Yacht Club, and Boardwalk have boat transportation to MGM, are
within walking distance of Epcot, and offer bus transportation to all
parks. You can get to MK by boat from Wilderness Lodge, and bus to other
parks. Otherwise, it's the buses or your rental car.

With 3 adults and 2 children, the standard room of many of the Deluxe
resorts will accommodate you (the exceptions being Wilderness Lodge and
Animal Kingdom Lodge, to the best of my knowledge). Of the Deluxes that
will accommodate 5 in a standard room, my picks would probably be the
Polynesian or Beach Club. There are links to hotel information and
pictures at http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm.

If you have 4 adults and 2 children, then you have to consider more
expensive room options, like suites. Or you can book a Fort Wilderness
cabin, which doesn't necessarily sound like what you're looking for; or
you could book 2 rooms at one of the moderate resorts (which would be
much less expensive than booking a suite). My favorite is Port Orleans -
Riverside, but Port Orleans - French Quarter has its fans too. :-)

HTH!
