I guess I'm a vet. I've taken over 40 trips in 13 years from the west coast to Fla. I prefer WDW to Ca. and also Universal Escapes to Universal Studios Hollywood and Sea World in Fla. as well. I've found I can fly cross country and stay for the same price as Portland to John Wayne and stay at Paradise Pier.Hello-
Growing up in Southern California, I've been to Disneyland dozens of times. My 5 and 7 year-olds have been there at least 10 times each. We're all big fans.
We're thinking of a family vacation to DisneyWorld early next year (January or February), and looking for advice.
We want to maximize the experience, see as much as we can, and have as easy a time as possible. But we need some advice from DW veterans.
We're thinking about perhaps 6 or 7 nights. Too many? Too few?
We'd like to be able to take the monorail to the major parks, or the boats, so I know that limits some of our choices in resorts. The Deluxe category is fine. What is best for a family with three (perhaps 4) adults and two small kids? They're probably as interested in the pools as the parks.
I know this question is very open-ended, but I'm looking for any and all advice I can get.
Thanks-
Ed
If paying for all your air fares and renting a car looks like a substantial increase in your vacation budget I'd stay 2 weeks. There's a huge per day savings if you buy 7 day passes at WDW. At UE, where there are 2 theme parks, a downtown district and 3 resorts within walking distance, when you buy a 2 day pass at about $100 (adult) the 3rd day is free and the second day at SW is free. Busch Gardens in Tampa is an easy drive and can be combined with SW admission. I think the kids are a little young for Kennedy Space Center unless they're already aware of such things.
The resorts that run monorail or boat to the theme parks are basically in the deluxe category. The rooms seem to me similar to the "moderate" resorts and cast members are honest in saying the higher price in large part due to location. As a WDW resort guest you can take a ride on any transportation as an experience; I find the buses to be plenty comfortable, considering I save $40 a night or more on my room. Port Orleans, Riverside, Alligator Bayou section has an extra trundle bed if you want the kids separate; that would be my 1st choice at the moderates. And there's a boat that runs to Downtown Disney.
The month of Jan. has about the lowest rates for room only at WDW, but book soon. It's a dry month and although it can get chilly some mornings it's not bad enough to deter kids from the pool in the afternoon.
