I have been keeping quiet during this conversation but I am at the point
that I am going to explode in anger! There are many people who are heavy
who do NOT eat a lot. I am one of them. And I thoroughly resent the
classification that it is from lack of will power that has caused me to be
heavy.
I had my first bout of cancer when I was 9. I had the early chemo
experimentation back in the late 50's. I remember the doctor telling my mom
something about a 20% chance. When I described the type of cancer to the
surgeon who recently took out my 4th bout of cancer, he stated that I really
had closer to a 12% chance of survival. But I made it! And next week I
will be going back in for a quick surgery to remove what is hopefully not
malignant yet. After a quick trip to WDW
Labor Day week, it will be followed by a lumpectomy + . And yes, I will be
using an ECV because I can not even walk as far as Main Street much less the
whole day.
When I was in the hospital for surgery some 25-26 years ago, a doctor I had
never seen came in to my room and gleefully announced that they were going
to put me on an enforced diet to make sure I lost weight. It was a whopping
700 calories a day and I did not finish every meal. I gained 18 pounds in
3 weeks and he came back screaming at me because I must have been sneaking
down to the gift shop. Sure, with hospital gown flapping in the breeze,
wheeling my IV trolley.
After my 3rd bout of cancer, because of all the drugs I had to take, my
weight zoomed to a minimum of 475 pounds. They really don't know how high
it was, they estimated it by the clunk of the extra weights they put on the
scale. I then wore an 8X. I wound up having to go for a gastric bypass
because the insurance would pay for that instead of an exploratory as to why
I had a VERY painful lump. They found out on the OR table that I had a
strangulated hernia that ruptured that 5 doctors mis-diagnosed. And my
stomach they found was full of birth defects and scar tissue from over 45
years of diagnosed ulcers. Because of the surgery being modified I was on
mostly broth for the first 2 years. Lost a whopping estimated minimum of
300 pounds. And as soon as I began eating anything over 400 calories a day,
I gained weight. I've even regained 75 pounds on a nutritionists strict
diet. I can no longer eat most meats, vegetables, or fruits and most of my
meals is soup. You try it with no coffee, no tea, no soda, or even no
juices unless it is so diluted it is 90% water. But you know what? I'm
still alive, and I am celebrating life!
So get off your tiresome soap box and shut up.
