Re: WCS Music – “Boom-Boom-Boom”

memiki's (Miki Holliver) observation is worth commenting on:

Since hustle has completely abdicated the young and current musical
dance space - west coast must partly fill the void.

Older folks need the young, and have to have patience with the fact
that all the stuff played in west coast rooms can't all be as tired as
it is at hustle events.  You simply can't have bad slow music in every
room so older folks can "style" at major events.  Miki would be the
first to admit that she has never walked up to a DJ who played one of
these lovely slow songs and said "hey what was that track - so I can
go out and buy it".   Older folks therefore insist on the playing of
music (at events) they would never own themselves or listen to off the
dance floor.  Now – obviously, you would own some of that stuff if you
where being paid to own it – as a teacher or DJ – but that’s not a
choice, that’s a business. This is not true for 20 something’s - as
the many Ipod owners will attest.

West coasters are now on "point" as the major dance to hustle's minor
- so recruiting the young has to happen in one of those dances - or
none at all - obviously NOT an alternative.

This is a problem common for the AARP - and that their members have
needs that are different from the young.  We should accommodate the
older folks - but not at the exclusion of the young.

David -- It's not how old you are.....it's how young you
dance...... :)

We have a large group of under-18 dancers. They are a constant at WCS
events and increase in numbers from day to day. They are extremely
talented and a joy to behold. All dancers, regardless of age, need to
be treated nearly equal at the very least and with special attention
to the young. A good dance mix by an experienced and talented DJ is
all that is needed......if a dancer is not thrilled with a current
selection, he/she knows with a little patience their music is coming.

As it seems to be with you, the young people are a constant thrill and
revelation and often we can learn from them.
