I normally do not mention the staff at an event when I am chief judge
because I work at so many of them however; I feel this is a worthwhile
exception.
The professional staff at the Phoenix convention(listed below) this
year was exemplary. Every judge showed up early for every contest,
every DJ played great music, the Emcees rocked, and the GPSDC staff
took really good care of the event staff through out the weekend. From
making sure we had food available on Sunday when we were going non-
stop to ensuring that we did not miss the buffets in the evenings
because (some of us) were still working. Thanks Stan and Anne!
I would like to thank Jim Tigges (& Cathy) especially, this was our
first time working together in this capacity and he was very efficient
and thorough, as well as quite pleasant to work with (for a computer
geek!)
The competitors were very respectful and prompt (for the most part)
and we were able to hold almost every competition on time. I
personally do not consider 5 minutes after the scheduled time to be
late at a dance convention anyway. We made sure to give the audience
time to get to the ballroom at a new resort where they may take longer
to get there than they expect or are used to. The one contest that did
start late was the Intermediate Semi-Finals on Saturday after the
dinner break. This individual contest was purposefully late since at
the scheduled 7:30 start time the ballroom was almost empty with the
exception of the competitors.
Fridays competitions were a bit free flowing as far as the schedule
went due to the fact that we had to add a quarter-finals that was not
on the schedule. BTW, if I have my way quarter-finals will be on the
schedule next year! Especially when we had 112 followers in the Novice
division!! We still finished by shortly after 5PM which was my target
time once I realized the necessity of an extra round.

As one of the dj's for the event, I too would like to thank Scorer Jim
Tigges, Head Judge Gary Jobst, and all of the judges and competitors
for making my life so much easier. Special thanks to my fellow
"professional" dj's- John Festa, Beth Bellamy and Victor Loviera- as
well as GPSDC Music Director Frederick Johnson and all of the Club
dj's (particularly Mike Gallo and Bob Brown who were of great personal
assistance to me) who did such a great job.
This was my first time as a dj at the Phoenix 4th Convention (I've
attended every year save one since 1998) and it was a great
experience. Thanks to Anne Barnes and the Club for allowing me to
participate.
