Our dance friend and frequent contributor to r.a.d., Leah Flores, has been
diagnosed with breast cancer. She will undergo surgery (double mastectomy
with reconstruction) on the 18th.
It appears, though, that Leah is probably one of the lucky ones in terms
of being able to remove the cancer (in situ), possibly without needing
radiation and/or chemotherapy. Of course, she won't know for sure until
the biopsy results are in. She says that even if treatments are needed,
she feels lucky that her chances of complete recovery are very
good.
Leah will be in ICU for 3-4 days following surgery then will be at home
recovering another 2-3 weeks. Hopefully, if all goes well, we can expect
to see Leah back on r.a.d in a couple of
weeks.
In the meantime, let's all say a few prayers for Leah's favorable
prognosis and for a speedy recovery.
Leah asks that we please donate whatever we can to the American Cancer
Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation or any cancer foundation of choice;
it is the only way to assure that research continues so that someday even
late stages of cancer can be treated and, even better, find a way to
detect and eradicate all cancers very early.
