Google is a commercial site that archives the rec.arts.dance forum
(including your posts) why aren't you mad at them ?

I'm not mad at anyone. If I was it wouldn't be Google. Google -- and before
it Deja News -- has always made it clear that the posts are from Usenet.
When people interact with the posts via Google, those posts are also part of
Usenet. IOW, the 'forum' is Usenet. What these people have done is rip
thousands and thousands of posts from Usenet and present them as posts to
their own forum. I object to my name being attached to their forum because
I've never been a part of their forum. Further, when others interact with
these posts they stay in that "private" forum not Usenet.

Over the years, I've seen people archive an refer to the shoe faq and
dance floor faq that was compiled from Usenet discussions on various
dance related sites. What is the problem with that ? It isn't as if
someone is selling the stuff.

Well, as has been explained before, selling has nothing to do with it. And
this private forum displays lots of ads within the posts, so it is
"commercial".

As for archives of Usenet posts that are usually part of FAQs, I think
that's a legitimate use of the information provided because it's
"educational" and not "commercial". Any I've seen make mention of the source
(rad) and usually the author if it's not obvious. They don't pretend that
the informaiton was posted to that site, but make it clear it came from
elsewhere.
